Hospitalists Program

A New Level of Care During Your Hospital Stay

At Liberty Regional Medical Center, we want you to receive the best care possible. That's why we offer a comprehensive Hospitalist Program for our patients who are hospitalized. During your stay, you may be cared for by doctors who either specialize and are highly experienced in treating patients only in a hospital setting or by doctors who are highly experienced in both inpatient and outpatient care. With great world care you can feel confident that you and your loved ones will receive excellent healthcare right here at home.

Physician Care 24 hours, 7 days a week!

What is a Hospitalist?

Hospitalists are typically Internists or Family Practice physicians who specialize in providing care for patients in the hospital. Their goal is to provide you with the best possible outcome during your hospital stay. They work closely with your primary care physician, and other specialists if needed. They are available to the nurses and the medical staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How will a Hospitalist work with me during my hospital stay?

Together with your primary care physician, your Hsopitalist will plan and manage your treatment throughout your inpatient stay at Liberty Regional. Once admitted, your Hospitalist will coordinate your plan of care and provide answers to your questions. Your Hospitalist will assist you through a smooth and speedy recovery process by following up on any tests and adjusting your care as needed throughout the day. Your Hospitalist will work with you and your family to personally answer and discuss any questions you may have about your illness, medications and plan of care during your hospital stay. If you need to speak to your hospitalist at any time, simply let your nurse know and they will have the Hospitalist visit with you as soon as posible.

Physician Care Around The Clock

Why isn't my doctor seeing me in the hospital?

Your primary care physician has a busy clinic practice that may prevent them from being as accessible as they would like to be, especially during the day when they are seeing patients and reviewing test and lab results as they are reported. The Hospitalist Team provides full-time staffing and stays in close communication with your primary care physician to ensure you are receiving the best of care for your particular needs.

Your primary care physician will be aware that you have been admitted to the hospital and of your diagnosis and treatment plan. Upon discharge they will be notified if needed follow-up care.

What if I don't have a primary care physician?

Your Hospitalist Team will assist in arranging for follow-up care with a local physician.

Will I notice anything different about treatment by Hospitalists?

Most primary care physicians would visit their patients in the hospital early in the morning or later in the evening, either before or after seeing patients in their office. Hospitalists are available 24/7 so they are available for quicker admissions and to see patients as needed throughout the day. You may also be seen more than once if our condition changes or reports are received that you should know about.

What if a family member wants to talk to my Hospitalist?

Since you may not be seen at the same time every day, it's best to call or email the Hospitalist office. We will schedule a specific time for a call or for your next visit by your Hospitalist. If you have multiple family members, we do ask that you please designate one person to serve as the contact during your stay.
